If you've found your way here, you may already know that my name is Bill and I enjoy writing songs about God. If you did not know that, well now you do. I hope to be faithful with the songs I write. I'm not sure I know how to do that, but I think this website is a start. It contains the lyrics, chord charts, mp3's, even the stories behind the songs. And it is all free to you. So look around. Enjoy. And thanks for stopping by.
Some songs take a really long time to write. Others almost seem to write themselves, they come so quickly. I wrote 'Fireflies' in a matter of minutes.
I was sitting in my office at church one evening working on another song. I had come to a road block and couldn't go any further. I found myself looking out the window, watching a group of fireflies in the field across the parking lot.
I used to love to chase and catch fireflies when I was a little kid. In junior high, I used to love to hit them out of the air with my baseball bat.
But on this occasion, I began to wonder, "Why do we only see fireflies at night? Where do they go in the morning?"
I'm sure there is a real answer to those questions, but with my guitar already in hand, I began to write this song. It is a parable of sorts. Life is short. We've only got one light. What are we going to shine for?
